Put some money asides and you would be able to make a trip there! Especially whenever there's a convention or something like that where Ancilla attends at the same time! |

| Just one problem. Having never been to Amsterdam before I'd have no idea where anything is or know anyone there so would get lost very quickly or worse |

Red Light district is easy to find. Just walk outside the main entrance of the central station for a few hundred metres, the walk to your left towards the Zeedijk area. Besides hookers and sexshops, you ca also find a lot of coffeeshops over there.
But for the rest it can be difficult to find the things you want to see, when I was there, I couldn't find useable citymaps. Besides that, a lot of places in the centre of the city smells like piss and/or dope. And beware of pickpocketeers and drugdealers, they are represented very well over there. |

Well actually it is hard to get lost in Amsterdam, and so easy as well.
First of all Amsterdam is tiny compared to other big cities. But we have canals not going straight but in half circles which makes you believe you are going in a straight line but they don't. We just love to mindfuck people that say they have great orientation
But aside from that I think there are good maps, rent a bike and you can reach everything within a few minutes!
And if you do get lost I think you'll find almost everyone from Amsterdam speaks English, or is a tourist themself. So don't hestitate to ask.
But maybe there should be a big "meet Ancilla in Amsterdam meeting" where all forummembers (and others for that matter) can get a tour from Ancilla? |

Oh I would love to! i guess there can't be a better guide
But i have a strange question for all dutch here. Ancillia said that even for people who don't smoke weed, it's still nice to go in coffee shop to have a coffee....I though that coffee shop where just some place for junkie, where they sell nothing else but drugs, not coffee. In a way it make sense, because why would it be called like this if we cannot have a coffee? but on another hand, hwo do you call not "coffee" where we can just have a coffee without being in a total THC fog? (because with all the tourist that come in NL, especially in amsterdam, just for smoking and buying drugs, it must be a real fog in these "shops")
Or is it just the same place? |

Well as she says, you can get some coffee there as well and the atmosphere and decorations are most of the times very laid back and relaxing.
There are some great coffeeshops and if you don't smoke or take your stimuli otherwise they are still fun places to just crash! |

Now that is an idea!!!
Think it would be a very good thing for Ancilla to spend time with her forum "chums" hehe, little bit of a PR boost hehehe.
Then again having said that I've not been having a particularly enjoyable time lately so something like that would certainly cheer me up a great deal. |

I've been in amsterdam this week-end and my opinion about this city is pretty strange. In fact, i think it must be a great city but the incredible crowd (and when i say incredible crowd, please keep in my mind that i lived in Paris for 4 years, so i know what a crowd is, but here it was much worst!) of junkies and russian drunkards and other tourists make it not very enjoyable, but well, maybe it was just because it was the last week end before new year eve, so maybe it was more over crowded than usual.
But well, maybe i haven't seen the best place of the city...I think i've seen the townhall, the asian district (erk!!! totally dirty and the food was scary) and a few sex shop...
So, i think that i can say that i'm pretty disapointed of A'dam...but i can't judge only after 2h in this city, so i'll come back, with someone who know the city (i hope)
(ps: you can relax and free lexie from your torture machine, Ancilla, i'm not talking about you in my last sentence ;p) |

I have heard of Erotica actually, but I've never had the chance to visit because around that time my head is usually at the Rubber Ball. Good idea though, it's early enough fdor me to start thinking if it would be nice for me to visit this year.
As for Amsterdam, although I live there, even I have admitted there are plenty of downsides! I do think you came at a very cold and touristy time though, so surely that cannot help. But I know what you mean Pyross, the traffic and crowded streets drives me crazy too! When I go shopping I always feel like an ant in a colony. It does sound like you only stayed in the red-light district, but depending on what you're looking for it's not the best place to hang out in Amsterdam at all. (But you should have seen the fetishshops Absolute Danny, Diabolo and Demask though!)
But still Amsterdam has some pretty great things about it too. I definatly love the tolerent laws, even though they don't neccesarily apply to me. And with the old citycenter with building of 100's and 100's of years old I think it is definatly a privilege to walk around here every day. |
